WCAG 1.4.8: Visual Presentation

WCAG 1.4.8 Visual Presentation is a level AAA success criterion from WCAG 2.0. Blocks of text can be presented so people choose colours, limit the line width, avoid full justification, and increase line and paragraph spacing.

People with dyslexia and low vision often need a narrower line and more spacing.

How to test

Check long articles. Lines should not stretch across a huge monitor, and text should not be fully justified.

How to fix

Limit line length to about 80 characters and left-align paragraphs.

Example that fails

A journal article is fully justified across a 1400 pixel column.

Example that passes the check

The article column is about 70 characters and left aligned.

Shopify

In the blog article section, cap the content width and remove justify from the CSS.

WooCommerce

Constrain the single post width in the theme.

WordPress

Set a content width on the group block and do not justify paragraphs.

Wix

Narrow the blog text strip and set alignment to left.
