WCAG 1.3.1: Info and Relationships
WCAG 1.3.1 Info and Relationships is a level A success criterion from WCAG 2.0. Structure that is shown visually must also be in the markup: headings, lists, labels, table headers and groups.
Screen readers do not see bold text as a heading unless it is a heading element.
How to test
Check the accessibility tree. Headings, lists, form labels and table headers should match what you see.
How to fix
Use real headings, lists, label elements and th cells. Do not fake structure with CSS alone.
Example that fails
A size chart is a grid of divs with no table headers.
Example that passes the check
The size chart is a table with th cells for Size, Chest and Waist.
Shopify
In the theme section for the size chart, output a table with th cells. Product options need label elements, not only placeholders.
WooCommerce
Keep WooCommerce checkout labels. Custom size charts should use the table block or a real table.
WordPress
Use Heading, List and Table blocks. Do not make a paragraph look like a heading with font size only.
Wix
Set text to a heading style, and use a table element for size charts rather than text boxes aligned by eye.
