WCAG 4.1.3: Status Messages
WCAG 4.1.3 Status Messages is a level AA success criterion from WCAG 2.1. Status messages that are not focused can still be announced, using a live region or a role such as status or alert.
A screen-reader user does not hear 'Added to basket' if it is only painted onto the page.
How to test
Add a product with a screen reader. The confirmation should be announced without moving focus.
How to fix
Put the message in a role=status or aria-live=polite region.
Example that fails
The mini cart updates with no live region.
Example that passes the check
A visually hidden status says Added to basket.

When the cart drawer updates, write the result into an aria-live region in the theme.
WooCommerce
Keep WooCommerce notices in a container assistive technology can hear, or add aria-live.
WordPress
Put form success text in a role=status element.

If a custom message appears, add a live region in embedded HTML or use a form success state that is announced.
