WCAG 3.2.4: Consistent Identification
WCAG 3.2.4 Consistent Identification is a level AA success criterion from WCAG 2.0. Components that do the same thing are identified the same way. A search button should not be called Search on one page and Go on another.
People using speech or memory rely on the same name for the same action.
How to test
Compare buttons that do the same job across templates.
How to fix
Use one label for one action.
Example that fails
Search is labelled Find on the blog and Go in the header.
Example that passes the check
Both buttons say Search.
Shopify
Use the same cart label in the header and the cart drawer.
WooCommerce
Call the button Add to basket everywhere, not Buy on some loops.
WordPress
Keep one label for search.
Wix
Use the same button text for the same action.
