WCAG 2.4.2: Page Titled

WCAG 2.4.2 Page Titled is a level A success criterion from WCAG 2.0. Each page needs a title that describes its topic or purpose.

Screen-reader users hear the title first. Browser tabs are useless if every title is the shop name only, or empty.

How to test

Open several pages and read the tab titles. Product pages should include the product name.

How to fix

Set a unique title per template: product name, collection name, or page name, plus the shop name.

Example that fails

Every page title is 'Home'.

Example that passes the check

The mug page is titled 'Stoneware mug | North Shore'.

Shopify

Use the theme title tag with the page title and shop name. Fill SEO titles where you override them.

WooCommerce

Set the document title from the product or page. Check an SEO plugin is not blanking it.

WordPress

Give every page a title and keep title-tag support.

Wix

Set the page SEO title in page settings.
