Wix accessibility

Wix accessibility fixes happen in the Editor: image alt, heading level, button names and form titles. AltGrade scans the published site and lists those edits. A widget layered on the site does not replace them.

Editor settings that matter

Set the site language in site settings and confirm the published html includes lang. Give every form field a visible title. Placeholder text inside the box is not the title. Set heading levels in order. Do not jump from Heading 1 to Heading 3 to get a smaller size.

Select each image and write the alt. Product photos need the product name. Decorative photos can be marked decorative. Name icon buttons. Edit button labels so they say which page opens, not Click here. If a link opens a new tab, say so in the label.

Text, colour and motion

Pick a darker text colour. If words sit on a photo, put a solid strip behind them and measure the contrast. Input borders need enough contrast to see the field. Turn off autoplay sound on background video. Attach captions when the video speaks. Stack strips in the mobile editor so nothing scrolls sideways at a narrow width.

Do not add custom CSS that removes focus rings. Do not lock orientation. Do not cover the top of the page so skip controls cannot be reached. Lightboxes should close with Escape.

Check the published site

Scan the live URL, not the editor canvas. The free scan reads up to 10 public pages. Open a form and a product. Tab through. Empty the form and confirm the error is text. Use the contrast checker on the button and the price before you publish the colour change.

Wix strips and custom code can repeat an id or leave an iframe without a title. Prefer Wix video and map elements you can name. If you embed an iframe, give it a title that says what it contains.

How AltGrade helps

The report points at the element setting, not at a code overlay you cannot find next month. Fix the Editor, publish, and rescan. The £49 audit covers more pages and a PDF. Monitoring from £19 a month watches the published site. No tax is added.

You keep editing in Wix. AltGrade does not install an accessibility widget on the site.

Editor habits that stick

Text boxes stacked to look like headings are not headings. Set the style to Heading 1, Heading 2 or Heading 3 in order. Visitors using a screen reader get an outline. Everyone else gets the same page.

Buttons need a name even when the design is an icon. Menu, Search and Cart are the three to check in the header. Forms need a title on every field, including the newsletter strip in the footer.

Publish, then scan the live URL. The Editor preview is not the page customers get, and it is not the page AltGrade fetches. If you use a lightbox for a sale, give it a close control and test Escape. Check the mobile header too. Icon buttons collapse into a menu that still needs a name. Scan the published URL, not the editor preview. Name Cart, Search and Menu in that collapsed header as well.

Questions

Can I fix this without custom code?

Most of it, yes. Alt text, headings, button labels and form titles are Editor settings.

Does a Wix widget cover it?

No. The published elements still need names, contrast and a sensible heading order.

What should I retest?

The same public URLs, with a keyboard. Automated scans cannot catch every WCAG issue, so listen to one page as well if you can.
