Warn before a new window
A new window or tab can disorient people, especially screen-reader users.
They do not know a new context opened.
Steps
- Find target blank.
- Add text such as opens in a new tab.
- Do not open a new window unless there is a reason.
Failing example
A policy link opens a new tab with no warning.
Better example
The link says Postage (opens in a new tab).
Shopify
If a Shopify menu link uses a new tab, add the warning in the link text.
WooCommerce
Same for WooCommerce external product links.
WordPress
Add the warning on WordPress links that use a new tab.
Wix
In Wix link settings, if you open a new tab, say so in the label.
